Is your real name Sadie?

My real name is Sara, but most people call me Sadie. It’s a common nickname for Sara, even though it’s longer… Yeah. Weird.

Where’s the “Saturday” part come from in your username/email address/twitter account/etc.?

No great mystery, sorry! I was born on a Saturday.

I think your blog title is grammatically incorrect. Shouldn’t it be “Every Day Sadie”?

It could be either. “Every Day Sadie” works since I post just about every single day. “Everyday Sadie”, however, implies that I’m a garden-variety, Everyman type of Sadie which is exactly what I meant.

No real photographer uses a compact digital!  Why don’t you use a better camera?

I’m a one-handed photographer, and — worse — I’m a wrong-handed photographer. I lost my right arm in a house fire when I was a baby. As fabulous as DSLR cameras are, they just aren’t made for single-handers, let alone single-handed lefties.

Despite being a simple and scorned point-and-shoot, my Canon PowerShot A1100 IS was very highly-rated and widely recommended as a great compact digital option.  It still shows up in lists of well-liked cameras, and it’s almost 5-years-old!  On the plus side for me, it’s small and light, so I have no trouble accessing all the settings and hitting that shutter button at just the right moment.

In the years that I’ve had my little Canon, I’ve learned to tweak what it can do as much as it’ll let me.  I can even fake out a depth of field… Not an easy task outside the SLR arena!
